A rare George Halstead bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 or #6 line. Strong DF action. Light use judging by the guidewear and general straightness but I would rate the condition as fair due to some chips and adhesion patches on the varnish. This rod would be an excellent candidate for a sanding and dip-over. The story goes that Halstead had a lot of customers who fished the big Delaware and needed a rod to toss lots of line. Tom Maxwell and I were impressed with this model and incorporated some features into an 8' rod we were designing. Flamed cane with two opposed nodes. Light brown wraps with a band of olive and red at the keeper and red at the ferrules and tip top. #10 Perfection stripper and black high arch HSS snake guides. The female ferrule is an "improved" type with a step up to bridge the ferrule jump. The males are standard step ferrules, and all are oxidized. The grip is 6" long and shaped to a medium cigar profile. The seat is an aluminum downlocking screwlock with a nickel silver pocket cap with "Halstead" stamped on it. The spacer is varnished Spanish cedar. The rod is full length and original and so is the brown cloth bag, though the tube appears to my eye to be an inexpensive replacement and may not be original to the rod.
