The Spinoza
Our signature model, the Spinoza represents the culmination of our rodbuilding efforts. It’s a throwback to the golden era of American rodbuilding, and we built this rod as an homage to the masters who shaped the craft for all who would follow. The Spinoza differs from our normal offerings in a couple of important respects. For starters we’ve given the bamboo a light flame with heavy oven tempering, resulting in a rod with rich, deep mahogany color. We’ve also outfitted it with antique-style pot-belly ferrules, our own creation which is painstakingly turned to precision in our shop. The hardware has antique-styling and the wraps are brown tipped with a light gold color. Finally, the Spinoza boasts a Payne-style node placement, with the nodes distributed throughout the rod such that no two appear in the same place, a departure from our standard 3-up patterns. We make a very limited number of these rods, which are made in small batches every year (Our Spinozas come more or less “fixed” and without the same customization options that we offer for our Hunts and Spring Creeks). In the end, we think you’d be hard pressed to find a rod that better captures the look, feel, and spirit of classic rodmaking.
