The reel seat is an aluminum gold anodized up-locking screwlock with a Pakka wood spacer. The cloth bag is green and the aluminum tube is painted brown cracked glass with a brass collar and top. This rod was intended to pair with a Joe Saracione reel with the same serial number described below. 1982 date on butt cap. The rod is flame treated with a spiral node pattern. Excellent varnish. The main wraps are brown  with black edges on all wraps and a band of apricot and black at the keeper and the male ferrules. The Swiss style ferrules have been engraved by Paolo Barbetti as well as the down lock pocket and cap. Agate stripper and black snake guides. The grip is 5 3\/4\" and shaped to a medium western profile. The down-lock screw lock is nickel silver with opposed pocket caps. Fantastic smoky veined walnut spacer. The bottom cap is engraved \"D.L. Whitehead, Maker, Ser 51A, 1982.\" The ferrule plug is nickel silver and bone. The rod comes in a red cloth bag and an Arne Mason leather tube with aluminum insert and brass top and collar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA superb Saracione Deluxe fly reel, 2 3\/4\" diameter and set up for RHW. Serial #51A. The reel weighs 5 ounces on my scale. Near mint condition. There is some very faint rim rash and minor mounting marks. This reel is intended to pair up with the Darryl Whitehead rod described above and which bears the same serial number. The polished hard rubber side plates are perfect. The rim bands are nickel silver while the foot, spool, and serpentine handle are aluminum. The screws and pillars are stainless steel. Black oxidized stripper and black snake guides. The ferrules are truncated swiss style with a collar on the male and a slant knurl and two trim marks. All of the hardware is oxidized jet black and shows no sign of brassing. Brass ferrule plugs. 5\" long medium cigar grip. The slide band seat sports a mottled, varnished, and stained bird’s eye maple spacer (super high density eyes – I have not found bird’s eye this good in 40 years!). The oxidized butt cap has no roller die stamp. The owner’s name is inscribed on the rod as well as the leather rod tube. The stripper is a perfection and the snake guides are very high arch black H.S.S. The ferrules are squared to the rod shaft, oxidized jet black, and fit snugly. The grip is 6\" long and squared at the front to the tenite black front cork check. Unfortunately, the grip and seat have been cleaned leaving them ridged. The seat is all cork and is flatted with a black cap and ring (the cap is slightly inletted). I suspect they are bakelite or a hard plastic. The rod bag is tan-colored poplin with “Edwards Quadrate” printed on it in maroon. The rod tube has a “W.E. Edwards + Son Mt. The finish on this rod is the best Garrison I have ever seen. There are two condition matters to note which are that the olive tip has a hook impact 2 guides down from the tip top that caused the start of a splinter but it has been glued over and appears to be holding just fine. The second is that the red tip is 1\/4\" short. Blond cane with a spiral node pattern. The main wraps are fully transparent white, black (or dark brown) at the keeper and brown at the ferrules. The early style ferrules are oxidized. The stripper is carbide and the snakes and tip tops are chrome. The grip is a 6\" long and shaped to the characteristic blunt cigar. The reel seat is all cork with a diamond knurled ring and a spun cap with a formed pocket. The ferrule fits are fine and the rod is straight. The rod comes in a grey poplin bag with two ferrule plugs attached and an aluminum tube with brass fittings. There is a very small amount of brassing to the inner snake guide and cosmetic casting cracks to the mid female wrap. Otherwise the rod is in perfect condition and straight as a pin. This rod has standout engraving throughout, including on the ferrules, the seat cap and ring, and all the brass tube hardware. It is right up there with the best engraving I have seen. The cane is tiger striped \/ flamed and configured in a three up node pattern with mirrored tips. The varnish, as with most T\u0026amp;T’s, is flawless and like a pane of glass. The main wraps are clear with light brown edges, dark brown at the ferrules and tipped with black edges on all. The stripper is a banded agate and the snakes are black nickel. The ferrules are swiss style with a collar on the males, and oxidized (100% intact) and engraved. The grip is 5\" long and shaped to a heavy cigar profile. The slide band seat is burl walnut, perfectly varnished, though shows some minute signs of use (a faint reel foot impression). The hardware is oxidized and engraved on all surfaces. The rod comes in a tan cloth bag with a stiffener.
