Dickerson Model 8015 Special Bamboo Fly Rod 8' 2/2 #6 [SALE PENDING]

2132

A Lyle Dickerson model 8015 Special bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for what feels to me like a #6 (most of the 8015 models I've handled would match well with a #5 but I'd try a #6 or perhaps even a #7 with this rod - the tips clock in at around .095" over varnish). "Dickerson 8015 Special" inked on the shaft, along with the original owner's name and the year of manufacture (1952). The rod weighs 4.7 ounces on my scale. Authoritative medium action. The rod is largely straight and both ferrules seat fully. Good original and fishable condition with primarily cosmetic issues to note. The varnish is in middling shape and is missing in a few places throughout, and the rod, though fishable, might be a good candidate for a professional re-dip. One tip top has been re-glued without seating all the way down to tip-top wraps but appears firmly in place. And the threaded barrel on the reel seat has a slight crack leading toward the brass pin but the barrel appears to be tight with no wobble. There is also some moderate soiling to the grip. Overall the rod is full length, largely intact in all the ways that matter, eminently fishable, and in good overall condition given its age and use. Medium wheatstraw cane done in a three up node pattern construction. Wrapped in the usual brown with black tipping, including the four intermediates between the bent-wire keeper and the carbide stripping guide. Oxidized 15/64 ferrules that have a few small spots of finish missing where the oxidation and varnish are gone. The grip is 6 1/2" in length and shaped to a heavy blunt profile. The reel seat sports the 16 TPI aluminum downlocking screwlock over a varnished walnut spacer and culminating in a pocket cap. As noted the thread lock barrel has a crack in the flatted area near the pin, but is firmly in place. The rod packs into a light green khaki bag that is in fair shape with some holes in the bottom and a few throughout. There is no tube though we will provide a temporary one for transport to you. A very pleasant and authoritative casting rod that showcases Dickerson's tapers well.
