An FE Thomas "Black Diamond" bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 or #6 line. Marked "7 1/2C" on the shaft. Fast DF action. Mint condition. This is a highly unusual rod as the four strip sections are all painted black. The owner of the estate this rod came from was a huge fan of Sam Carlson (as am I) and owned 5 of his rods in completely mint condition. I've spoken with Dana Gray at length about this rod and my own examination just shouts to me this is Sam's workmanship from the oxidized squared step ferrules to the grip squared to the tenite front cork check. I suspect this is a one-of-a-kind project dreamed up by the customer and Sam. The main wraps are green with three signature wraps. The snake guides are high arch bronze. The ferrules are squared to the blank and retain 100% of the original oxidation. The 6" long cigar grip is squared to the tenite front grip check. The downlocking screwlock is an aluminum F.E. Thomas. The nickel silver pocket caps were sold to Sam by the Thomas Co. The spacer is quartersawn walnut. The rod comes with one of Sam's cloth bag and all aluminum tube.
