A nice FE Thomas Browntone bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels like a #3 or #4 line. Serial # F769. The rod weighs 3.3 ounces. Semi-full flexing action with fine tips. Good condition with only two small glancing hook strikes to the varnish of the mid-section. The grip is well tanned with a bit of ridging cork erosion. The keeper and hardware are oxidized. The cane is lightly flamed with a few darker patches. The main wraps are brown with red edges at the keeper and male ferrules. There are 3 windaways at the male ferrules. Perfection stripper and the snake guides go from left to right so they are American-style twist. The oxidized step ferrules fit well. The grip is 5 1/2" in length and formed to a medium cigar. The flatted slide band seat looks like varnished Spanish cedar. The butt cap is pocketed and oxidized (retaining 90% of the oxidation), and stamped “F.E. Thomas, Special, Bangor, ME” in a cartouche. The rod packs into a blue cloth bag and aluminum tube with the F.E. Thomas brass hardware.
