A nice HL Leonard "Standard" 51-7 fly rod, 8'6", 3-piece, 2-tips, built for a #7 line. Serial #587 indicating a 1979 manufacture date right in the Maxwell era. Dry fly action. Used but generally very good condition with one exception. One tip has a sharp bend at the second guide up from the ferrule. After inspection, I found a cracked facet within the span of the snake guide. If you remove the guide, clear wrap the area, and replace the guide, you may have a very serviceable tip.  For the purposes of this listing, however, we are treating it as a one tip rod. Wheat-straw color cane with a three up node pattern. Honey colored main wraps, brown at the ferrules with red accents at the keeper, ferrules, and tip tops. "51-7" is lettered on the wrap flat and the male ferrules.  The owner's name "L.A. Russell" is lettered on the reverse side. The varnish is in great condition and the ferrule fits are nice and tight. The ferrules are oxidized pewter, a hallmark of  Maxwell period rods. The grip is 6 1/2" long, 13 corks, in a slim western style. The reel seat is a polished up lock aluminum screw lock with a varnished, mortised, curly maple spacer. The screw lock nut is stamped "H.L.Leonard Rod Co, the Rod Maker, Since 1869" in the cartouche. Comes packed in the original bag and grey hard coat anodized aluminum tube with brass top and bottom.
