An extremely rare Hardy Brass Face Perfect fly reel, 3 1/2" in diameter, with a non-ported spool. I've talked to several Hardy aficionados about this reel and none can recall having seen one with a non-ported spool like this. And it is in superb condition throughout, a fantastic specimen. The ivorine handle spins freely (with a bit of travel but it is still held on firmly by the post). Great patina on the brass winding plate, with the rod-in-hand logo and the straight line "Hardy Pat 'Perfect Reel'" opposing each other. The tension adjuster works nicely and the drag has a strong click. The spool has the tiniest bit of wobble but it is very minor. The frame has very minor cosmetic wear typical of its age but is free of any major scratches or other defects. The reel boasts a 1904 style check but with the earlier flat C-springs as Hardy soon turned these 90 degrees. "4" stamped on the inside of the winding plate and spool and "I4" stamped on the inside of the frame along with what appears to be a faint "M" that's lightly stamped twice. Smooth brass foot with one side having some mild rippling to the underside but is fairly straight overall. A fantastic reel here for the serious Hardy aficionado.
