The owner's name is inked on the butt. The varnish is in excellent original condition. The wraps are brown with yellow edges and the stripper is a 1950's perfection. The guides are reverse twist bronze with very little interior brassing. The step ferrules retain 99% of the original jet black oxidation. The rod is perfectly straight. The grip is a medium cigar with an all cork seat with a ring and pocket cap. The pocket cap has a tiny bit of edgewear to the oxidation and in addition to the \"Payne, Reg Us Pat Off\" stamp also has \"Sold by, Von Lengerke + Antoine, Chicago\". The male ferrules are drawn seamless step down. The wraps are brown with a red band in the middle at the keeper and ferrules and at the carbide tip tops. The main wraps are pale yellow with black snake guides. The original owner's name is inked on the butt shaft and the date of '74. The grip has been cleaned and shows some ridging. It is shaped to a western profile and is 8\" long. The reel seat is an uplock with a hidden pocket cap and a varnished walnut spacer. The nickel silver screwlock has a unitary pocket cap and is from Montague. A small cork button hides a ferrule under the seat to accept the 5\" long fighting butt with a large red rubber button at its bottom. The varnish is fairly good with a few minor chips missing here and there. The ferrules are swiss style with no collar (a sign of an early model) and they are oxidized with 90% remaining. The grip is 6\" long and shaped to a large medium cigar with the bulk of the grip forward. The grip has some erosion issues due to an attempt to clean it. The reel seat is an early downlocking screwlock with the cutout barrel and detached slide seen on the later models but the but is smaller than the slide. The light walnut spacer is mortised and varnished with some extensive scratches and dents. The butt cap is aluminum. The rod could use a general straighten.
