For sale here is a beautiful and rare HMH Premium Vise with a pedestal base as well as a c-clamp. Made in the late 1970's. Serial no. 173. The vise is in excellent used condition. The HMH Premium Vise was designed in 1975 for a new breed of fly tyers born from the renaissance of fly fishing in the 1970's. The vise was chiefly designed by Bill Hunter, founder of HMH, in 1975-76 with a great deal of input from America's premiere tyers of the day. Those tyers included Dave Whitlock, Lefty Kreh, Ted Niemeyer, Poul Jorgensen, Jay and Kathy Buchner, Andre Puyans, and Rene and Bonnie Harrop.
The vise includes a traditional base made of heavy solid brass, a c-clamp base, the vise itself, five sets of jaws, and an Allen wrench for operation and set-up. The 3/8" pedestal standrod is 6" with a 9" rod included with the c-clamp.
The vise is capable of rotary action with simple operating mechanics, unlike many vises. The jaws are made of a special chrome-moly tool steel noted for its toughness. A material clip, instruction, and parts diagram are also included with the vise.
This vise marks a pivotal time period in the fly fishing world when a renaissance was truly happening. This would make an exceptional gift for the serious tyer or for any collector. The craftsmanship and thought that went into the design of the vise clearly shows. You will not be disappointed!
