For sale here we have Gary Howells' fly boxes with flies from his personal fishing vest. The flies were tied by Howells himself -they are in exceptional condition and expertly tied as Howells was a very accomplished tyer. The collection consists of two small Wheatley boxes.
The first Wheatley features six small windowed compartments with an assortment of small dry flies and medium to small wet flies. It appears to be an all around fly box including everything from pheasant tails and hare's ears to elk hair caddis and Catskill-style dries. Most flies in the #16-20 size range. The box is in excellent condition. All doors and windows are in working order, void of cracks or other defects. There is a blank contents label in the lid. The box measures 3 1/2" (L) x 2 3/8" (W) x 3/4" (D).
The second Wheatley box is of the same size and style. The box is dedicated to small dry flies size #16-20. The assortment ranges from Catskill style dries with and without quill bodies to midges, ants, and more. The condition of the flies is first rate. As with the first box everything is in working order and free of defects. The contents label is blank as well.
These personal artifacts from Gary Howells are a rare glimpse into a bamboo rod making legend. A must have for R.L. Winston or Howells collectors. Don't miss out on this piece of fly fishing history.
Note: A letter of provenance will be included from current owner Craig Lynch.
