For sale here is a Gary Lacey "Royal" -- 7' 3/2 3wt bamboo rod. The rod is in excellent original condition with the exception of one tip section missing its tip top. I have to confess that I broke it off while trying to bend the tip top loop (a long time ago when I didn't know better!) and subsequently lost the tip top. This is not a break resulting from fishing. The cane broke at the base of the tip-top.
This rod is amazing. I have fished it multiple times and have caught many backcountry trout with it up to 20 inches. It's a casting machine, capable in windy conditions, and clearly some of Mr. Lacey's best work. You will not be disappointed.
All sections are straight. The rod features darkly tempered cane with bronze wraps and rust colored tipping. The ferrules are wrapped in black as well as the scheme used on the guides. Red agate stripping guide. Gently swelled butt. Handsome nickel silver winding check. Classic cigar grip 5" in length with only minor soiling. Nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a walnut burl spacer. There are a few light scratches on the spacer and light wear around the rim of the butt cap. The bottom of the butt cap reads, "G. Lacey Maker".
The truncated nickel silver ferrules are size 9/64 and 15/64, the fit is excellent. The rod weighs 3.25 oz. The action is on the fast side of medium-fast. The thin tips provide finesse and tippet protection while the butt provides plenty of power for this small stream rod. Includes original bag and tube with brass fittings.
