For sale here is a lovely J.L. Weir & Son bamboo rod - 6'6" 2/2 3-4wt. Serial no. "D661.1.7". Originally made as a 1 tip rod though a second tip was made at later date. The second tip is slightly lighter in color though shares the same attention to detail and craftsmanship. The maker is unknown. The rod is in excellent++ condition and may have received a light varnish overcoat((PERHAPS A FULL RESTORATION)). All sections are full length and straight. The Weir family learned the rod making craft under Dr. Holden, the godfather of the modern building technique.
The rod features bronze wraps with charcoal tipping at the winding check, ferrules, and tip-tops. Blued guides. The script remains as clean and bold as the day it was written. Ring hook keeper attached to the grip. The cigar-style grip measures 6" in length with only the lightest soiling though there is a good bit of filler. Blued down-locking reel seat over a mortised cork spacer. The micro ferrules have a perfect fit, snug and smooth. The rod weighs in at 2.35. The action is on the faster side of medium-fast with a stout butt and delicate tip capable of considerable finesse. An excellent rod for gin clear waters and spooky trout.
Includes replacement bag and tube. Don't miss out on this terrific rod from a very underrated maker.
