Payne 98 Bamboo Fly Rod 7' 2/2 #4

A very nice Payne model 98 bamboo fly rod, 7', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. The rod weighs 3 ounces on my scale. Pleasing medium fast action. Excellent original condition with very few signs of use and the sections are nice and straight. The grip shows very minimal hand soiling and the reel seat hardware and ferrules retain all of their oxidation. Vaguely spiralish node placement with the characteristic chestnut cane color. Wrapped brown with gold and purple tipping at the keeper and male ferrules, with brown and gold on the main wraps and tip tops. Oxidized step ferrules which have a finial ferrule plug. The grip is 5 1/2" long and shaped to a medium cigar profile. The reel seat is a cap and ring over the typical spanish cedar spacer. The cap sports the Payne stamp in a cartouche with "Reg Us Pat Off" right below it, and on the reverse "Made for Abercrombie and Fitch Co". The rod packs into the original tan cloth with the original hang tag and the original tube with a red A&F sticker affixed to it. A highly desirable model Payne in superb condition.
