Born in 1878, EC Powell built fly rods out of a humble shop behind his Marysville, California home. He was best known for his work building "western" style rods that were longer in length and capable of handling big water, made possible by his early use of hollow-building. Powell's articulation of tapers - his famous A/B/C designation - also demystified bamboo rod design for many anglers. He built thousands of rods before his passing in 1966.
