A rare Ed Houston fly rod, 9'6", 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #8 or #9 line. 6.7 ounces. Powerful medium action. Excellent condition that may have been lawn cast only. Edwin Houston, the builder of this rod, was the shop foreman at the Thomas Rod Co, and this is the first of his rods that I have seen. The varnish is in excellent condition. Random node spacing in lightly flamed cane. The wraps are dark brown with green edges at the keeper, and male ferrules. 3-6-3 signature pattern. Large perfection tripper and reverse twist snake guides. Super Z logo ferrules which are polished bright. 6 1/2" long western style grip with a hidden pocket cap. Uplocking FE Thomas screw lock of aluminum over a walnut spacer. 4 1/2" long fighting butt plugs in the butt but the rod is missing the plug cover. The rod packs into a cloth bag with a fighting butt provision and an aluminum tube missing the top. The tube was mailed at some point and bears a shipping label with the address "Edwin W Houston, 98 Holyoke St., Brewer Maine". A very neat rod here for the FE Thomas fan.
