An FE Thomas “Bangor" bamboo fly rod” 8'6", 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 or #6 line. The rod weighs 5 ounces. DF action. Used condition with casting cracks at the ferrule wraps, chips here and there in the varnish, and some visible wear to the reverse-twist snake guides. This is a fairly rare Thomas model with a bit over 1,000 made. Light wheat-straw color cane with red wraps and 3/3/1 signatures. No edges. No keeper. The snakes are reverse twist bronze. Somewhat heavy varnish. The ferrule fit is tight and the ferrules themselves are soldered rather than drawn. The grip is 5 1/2" long, a cigar profile tapering to the front cork check. The reel seat is an aluminum downlocking screw-lock with a nickel silver pocket cap, all typical F.E. Thomas. The spacer is possibly Bakelite. The cap is stamped “The Bangor Rod” and on the bottom “H.G. 151” (1949). The rod packs into a cloth bag and original Thomas tube with the shield decal about 95% original.
