A nice Bogdan model 150 salmon reel, set up for RHW, with a spare spool. 3 1/2" in diameter with a 1 3/8" spool width. A nice mid-size salmon reel, perfect for switch or small spey rods. This reel comes from the collection of Frank Godchaux III, an avid salmon fisherman whose reels are featured in Graydon Hilyard's book on the Bogdans. Notably, Mr. Godchaux had many of his reels engraved by the celebrated engraver EC Prudhomme (1911-1990) known by sportsman for his masterly gun engraving. Here, Prudhomme has engraved a beautiful triad of Mr. Godchaux's initials in a lovely script, offset by a salmon fly and a leaping salmon engraving to the lower left and right, respectively, all done on the faceplate. Black sideplates and drag adjuster, with a warm silver color to the frame and spool. This reel has been well used, though is mechanically sound and the wear is cosmetic in nature. Both plates are in good shape overall though have the normal small nicks here and there. The rims have some rim rash from use, predominantly on the area opposite the foot. Near the foot, very faintly, "Frank Godchaux III" has been scratched into the rim, and the same has been done to the non-visible inside of both spools along with "150" in addition to the name (the inside of the spools also have line designation stickers which I have left on but are easily removable). The areas right around the takeapart screws have a few scratches from their repeated removal. There is also some light brassing to the drag adjustment knob. The foot is nice and straight and has "150" stamped into it. There is an ever-so-slight bit of wobble to the crank, though the reel is fine mechanically and has the hallmark "whoa!" drag these reels are known for. Multiplying 2:1 retrieve. Comes with two leather bags one for the reel and one for the spool. Though well used, this reel is a very nice package with plenty of salmon fishing mojo, and it should have many more years of salmon fishing ahead of it, accompanied by a tasteful bit of engraving to go along with it!
