A superb Edward Vom Hofe Cascapedia fly reel in an extremely rare 2/0 size. It is 3 3/8" in diameter, with a 1 1/4" spool width (and 1 5/8" overall width). It weighs 6.8 oz on my scale. This model is one of the rarest Edward Vom Hofe reels. Originally designed as the Salmon and Grilse reel, it was rechristened the Cascapedia in 1911, before being ultimately discontinued in 1920. This 2/0 size was only in the catalog for two brief windows, from 1911-1916, and 1918-1920. Rarer still is to find one in LHW. In fact, in looking through our extensive tackle database I could not find any other LHW 2/0 models - not one!
The Cascapedia was designed with a single action fixed drag and an on/off (poacher) button. On this one, the hard rubber side plates are in very good condition with one scratch and no cracks. The screw heads show some signs of use but no serious condition issues. The aluminum foot has been replaced. It has nickel silver rims, pillars, screws, counterbalance, on-off button, and oil port. The serpentine handle, spool, and foot are aluminum. The reel foot is 21/32" wide and 3" long (this width will not fit modern reel seats). The stamp on the oil port reads "EDW. VOM HOFE, Patentee, Pat d_ Jan. 23. 1883, Fulton St. N.Y." The reel is tight and in very good operating condition. It comes with the original leather case missing the metal plaque but has the stamp "E. Vom Hofe, N.Y. " on the bottom.
This is a must-have model for any serious Edward Vom Hofe collector and finding a 2/0 in LHW is just about next to impossible.
Note: we are accepting payment for this reel via check or bank wire only. Thank you!
