For sale here is a George Maurer bamboo rod -- the "48 Special". Seven feet in length for a four weight line. Rare three piece format with two tips. George described it as follows:
Named after the cane it was first built with...pre-embargo cane given to me by Walt Powell of Northern California's famous rod building family...The first taper I designed myself! The product of a marriage between a Payne 98 and a 7' Granger, this taper went through a quick half-dozen revisions. It's accurate at short range, and a joy to fish out at any distance you'd care to fish a 7' bamboo rod.
The late great rodmaker, Digger Degere, stated that George's 48 Special was the best four weight rod he had ever cast.
The rod remains in near mint condition. All rod sections and straight and full-length. Oxidized cap and ring reel seat over a gorgeous wood spacer. Cigar grip. The rod weighs 3 7/8 oz. with size 15/64 and 10/64 truncated Super-Z style ferrules. Medium fast action with a progressive taper.
A fantastic rod from a fantastic maker who unfortunately is no longer with us. You will NOT be disappointed in this one!

Shipping Information
- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Your shipping estimate will be calculated at checkout and if you have any questions please contact us. Please note the buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties or fees that may levied. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

Other Terms
- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
