A nice Gus Nevros fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #6 line. 5.5 ounces. Near mint condition, with just a few tiny reel foot marks on the seat and the start of some brassing to the inner guides. The grip is clean. Fairly fast action. Medium chestnut colored cane glued with resorcinol. Spiral node pattern. Excellent varnish. The main wraps are brown with orange and black edges fore and aft. The wraps on this rod appear to be coated with epoxy. There are two carbide strippers on the butt and black snake guides and tip tops. A build date of September 1988 and the previous owner's name are inked on the butt. The grip is 6" long and one in a western style profile with a hidden pocket cap. A signature of Gus's work was the 1/2" varnished front cork check of walnut, the grain aligned with the wrap flat and the walnut seat spacer and the 1/2" ball at the bottom of the uplocking screwlock. Gus once showed me a 6-sided broach he used on the reel seats to ensure alignment to the wrap flat. The seat is an uplocking aluminum screwlock. The walnut ball at the end of the screwlock has a brass disc insert with a large "N" engraved. The ferrules for this rod are oxidized swiss. Ferrule plugs of wood, brass, and cork are done in a finial style. Unfortunately the plug for the butt has the top of the finial broken off. The rod bag is a soft dark brown cloth and includes a pocket for the ferrule plugs and a set of rubber grippers to take the rod apart. The rod tube is brushed aluminum with a brass collar and top from the Rodon Co.
