Pinky Gillum Light Salmon Rod 9' 3/2 #8

631

A fantastic Harold "Pinky" Gillum light salmon rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tips, and built for what feels to me like an #8 line. Serial #I-839. The label states the weight is 6 3/8 oz. but my scale has it at 6.8 oz. Fast rod action. Excellent condition with signs of modest use. The grip is hand soiled and there is a tiny wrap crack at one of the ferrule wraps.  The ferrules retain 95% of the original oxidation, brassed on the welt and there is some brassing to the check. The ferrule fit is very tight and the rod sections are pin-straight. The varnish is superb and reminds me of some of the better Payne rods I have handled. The bamboo is a light to medium brown tone with lighter nodes. The node pattern is two opposed in the butt but less rigorously enforced in the tips. The glue is resorcinol. The snake guides are oxidized high-speed steel with a perfection stripper. The guides are wound on with light brown silk with a band of black, yellow, and black at the keeper and the male ferrules. The keeper is one flat right. The serial number is lettered just below the ferrule on the butt and just above the ferrule on the tips. The ferrules are original "Super Z" with the oval logo stamp. As stated earlier they retain 95% of the original oxidation. The grip is a generous 7" long and shaped to the "western-style" reminiscent of Payne. The reel seat spacer is varnished curly Spanish Cedar, a Gillum signature. The seat hardware is a mortised up-lock aluminum screw lock one-piece nut and slide. The slide is stamped with the Gillum roller die in a cartouche. An aluminum plug for the fighting butt is fitted to the bottom of the reel seat and knurled and scribed with several "targets". The famous Gillum fighting butt is 3 1/2" long and packs into a tan cloth outer bag. The tube is all original and the top has a white felt insert. The Gillum data sticker fixed to the tube is 100%. The rod is packed in a brown cloth bag and has a wonderful but heavy aroma from the varnish.  A rod of this quality rarely comes to market, just superb!

Please note that we are respectfully asking that that the buyer pay for this rod via a check for bank wire. Thank you!
