A very nice Hoagy Carmichael Model 212 bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tips, built for a #5 line. 4.1 ounces. Serial C-8-1. Very lightly used, all original with a letter of provenance from Hoagy. I believe Hoagy made only six of these models in total. Medium full flexing action. The nodes are laid out in a double spiral pattern. The varnish is excellent with a few tiny chips that have been filled. Dark brown wraps at the keeper and ferrules, light brown at the stripper and guides. Dark hard steel snakes. The tips are mirrored, however in the accompanying letter Hoagy admits to having mis-lettered the tips with one inked as "B-8-1" instead of "C-8-1". The letter states that the rod was made in 1979 and sold to a friend, subsequently sold to the current owner in 2003. The grip is a 6" and shaped to a blunt cigar. The reel seat is a nickel silver ring and pocket cap and the varnished spacer is apple. The rod bag is a grey poplin with the ferrule plug attached to the bag. The aluminum tube is polished with a few minor dents, and has brass hardware with grey felt in the top. The rod comes with the aforementioned letter of provenance.
