Transparent cinnamon colored wraps with black tipping at the winding check, ferrules, and tip-tops. The guides are also wrapped in both black and cinnamon. Blued guides. Ring hook keeper. Full wells grip with a rather straight taper measuring 6 1/8" in length. The cork shows only the lightest of handling marks. Classic blued nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a beautifully figured mortised wood spacer. Shown in the pictures is rubber o-ring just below the sliding band in place to keep the sliding ring from moving around during storage. Its easily removed by rolling it off the end of the reel seat. The Swiss-style truncated ferrules are size 13/64 with a perfect fit. The rod weighs 3.25 oz. feeling light and well balanced in the hand. Extremely smooth and balanced progressive action, casts very well with very little line out and holds plenty of reserve power for longer casts. Overall medium-fast action and flexes well into the butt section. Suitable for all types of fly fishing -- dries, wets, and small streamers. A great roll-caster also! A truly wonderful trout rod. Includes the original bag and tube with fine brass fittings.
Jim's rods are hand-planed, hollow-built into the tips, and exhibit some of the best cane work of any rod being made today. Jim's tapers have been tested and tweaked over the years as he states, "in laboratory conditions" at the casting ponds of the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club. He hand turns his high-quality hardware fittings. His tapers and resulting rod actions are amongst the most coveted by fishermen worldwide.
Mr. Hidy's rods are rarely seen on the secondary market. Don't let this one get away!
