A nice Mark Canfield (Red Willow & Co.) "Western Guide" model bamboo fly rod, 8’2”, 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 or #6 (the label states "full DT5 or nearly all #6" lines). Serial #520 SP. The rod weighs 5.1 ounces. Fast D.F. action. The rod condition is mint, unused. Dark oven tempered cane with semi-random node spacing (note: the rod data sheet attached to the tube has extensive information noted about a number of features of the rod). The main wraps are copper with yellow and black jasper edges and there are a number of other wrapping accents on the rod in various places. Large carbide stripper and oversize bronze snake guides. The Gene Edwards-style ferrules have been overwrapped with black thread (all except the tip males). The varnish coat is very amber and fairly heavy. The grip is 6 1/4" long and, according to the data sheet a “Syd Glasso favorite”, a blunt cigar with a very slight rise in the heel and a bulge roughly at the midpoint to fit in the depression of the palm. The seat is a downlocking aluminum screw lock with large light bulb (F.E. Thomas style) threads anodized black. The spacer is well varnished mahogany. The pocket cap is oxidized black and stamped “Red Willow, M. Canfield, Rodmaker” and has a horseshoe stamped on the bottom. The rod comes in a black cloth bag and aluminum tube with brass hardware and an extensive data sheet.
