An excellent Mike Spittler Quadrate fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #4 line. Fluted hollow construction. 3.2 ounces. Mint condition. Medium to medium-slow full flexing action. There are a number of interesting details on this rod. Light chestnut colored cane with 2-opposed node configuration. High quality varnish work. The wraps are red with black edges. Carbide stripper with chrome guides. The step ferrules are oxidized and the female has "MK Spittler" in a tiny script. The grip has a squared front cork check of what appears to be delrin that is reminiscent of the Edwards, Carlson, and Thomas, tradition. The grip is 6" and done in a western style profile with a flare at the back and a hidden pocket cap. The reel seat is an upsliding ring over flatted cork approximately 2 1/4" long. With the hidden pocket cap the Hardy LRH Lightweight on my desk fits snugly. The seat finishes with a very nice touch, a band of delrin, burled and varnished wood, and a bottom cap of delrin. Opposite the seat flat the wood is stamped, "Quadrate, MK Spittler, Fly Rods" in a cartouche and highlighted in white or yellow paint then varnish. The rod is outfitted with an excellent reproduction of the Payne finial ferrule plugs. The rod packs into a blue cloth bag with a pocket for the ferrule plug. The pocket has an embroidered Spittler logo patch sewn on. The rod tube is all aluminum painted with silver grey enamel with Mike's data sticker.
