A nice RL Winston bamboo fly rod, 9', 3-piece, 2-tip and built for a #7 line. The rod weighs 6.3 ounces on my scale. "RL Winston" and "9' 5 1/4 oz #7 3569" are lettered on the butt on successive flats. A Brackett-era Montana rod. Pleasing fast, authoritative action. One tip has a slight sweep, though nothing that needs attention. Good used condition with normal cosmetic wear throughout, though no major defects that I could find anywhere. The two male ferrules on the tips were recently replaced by Winston. Three up node pattern construction and the cane is a handsome medium wheatstraw color. The varnish is in excellent shape overall. Apricot wraps throughout with black tipping at the front cork check, ferrules, and tip tops. The ferrules have the trademark overwrap. Agate stripping guide with bronze snakes and black tip tops. the grip is 6 3/4" long and shaped to a mild full wells profile. The grip has some light soiling on it, and has a hidden pocket cap under the heel to accommodate the uplocking screwlock seat. Stabilized wood spacer which appears to be Zebrawood, and the bottom of the rod has a flared zebrawood end to it with a small medallion inset in the bottom with the Winston logo engraved on it. The rod packs into a cream cloth bag with the Winston logo embroidered on it and a green crackle paint aluminum tube with gold anodized aluminum fittings. A very nice rod here for chasing larger trout or light salmon or steelhead.
