A stunning Sam Carlson "Four" quad bamboo fly rod, 6'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. Serial #851-4652. Made in 1985, the first rod that year. Medium-fast action. The rod is pristine, mint and unfished. No grip soiling, no ferrule cracks, no internal brassing to the guides. Light flame temper with a superior varnish coat. The wraps are maroon with black edges at the keeper and male ferrules. 3/2/1 black signature wraps. “Carlson Four”, the serial number, and “CW Sam Carlson Maker” are all inscribed on the rod. Black stripper and black snakes with small hoop tip tops. The ferrules are oxidized black and fit perfectly. The grip is 5 1/4" long, flatted to the tenite cork check and shaped to a “Western” profile. Walnut slide band and cap and ring seat. I love the delicate way the slide ring is domed and knurled. Both the cap and ring are oxidized jet black. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and an aluminum gray frost coated tube which is fully wrapped in craft paper. This rod is an absolute stunner and could be the centerpiece of any rod collection.
