Orvis Bamboo Fly Rods

Orvis bamboo fly rods go back to the 19th century, to the earliest days when Calcutta cane was the norm. While its rods evolved along with the industry as a whole, the golden age of bamboo fly rods at Orvis came under the purview of Wes Jordan, who was hired to run fly rod production there in 1939 and would stay until his death in 1975. Jordan was a well-regarded builder prior to his arrival at Orvis and overhauled the company's quality and production, including the introduction of impregnation processes to make rods more durable.
