For sale here is a one-piece hexagonal bamboo rod built by Sam Carlson in the late 1950s after he purchased the Thomas Rod Company. This rod is next to impossible to find and possibly is the only one that exists. The script on the rod reads "Thomas Rod Co. #1103-5 1/2". This rod has all of the trademarks of Sam's rods, including burgundy wraps with offset red and black staggered wraps, medium-flamed cane and a high-gloss varnish. It is as straight as an arrow and shows very little use. The rod weighs 2.35 oz. and has a very brisk dry fly action with great ability to handle large fish in tight places. I would rate it best with a 5 weight line. The western-style grip measures 5 1/2" (1/2" rings) and the rod has an all-cork reel seat with blued nickel silver cap and ring hardware. Comes with the original bag and tube with Thomas decal in wonderful shape. Also comes with a very nice cloth case protecting the original tube. Lastly, the sale includes a letter from Dana Gray, current owner of the Carlson Rod Co. noting the authenticity of the rod to Sam's early years after purchasing the Thomas Rod Co.
Because the size of the mailing tube, this sale is restricted to US addresses only.
