A superb Sam Carlson "Four" bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #3 line. Serial number "768-483". The rod weighs 4.2 ounces on my scale. Full flexing action. Near mint condition with just a tiny trace of hand soiling and just the beginning of a few cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps. The serial number dates this rod to 1976. The rod is signed on the butt "Made by CW 'Sam' Carlson" and on the next flat "Carlson 'Four'". The cane is flamed with lighter nodes in a modified spiral where modified means two opposed displaced by about 1 1/2"-2". The main wraps are dark red with black edges at the keeper and male ferrules and signature wraps. The stripping guides is ceramic in a shock ring. The original owner's name is inscribed on the rod. Chrome snake guides and tip tops. The oxidized step ferrules are squared and fitted to the blank. The grip is 7" long and done in a Western profile with a hidden pocket cap and is squared to the tenite front cork check. The seat spacer is walnut with the FE Thomas uplocking aluminum screwlock. The bottom cap is black tenite. It's very rare for a Carlson to come to market especially one in this kind of condition. The rod packs into a bag and aluminum tube.
