An exquisite Sam Carlson Four bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels to me like a #3 line. Serial #824-4758, the 4th rod built in 1982. The rod weighs 3 3/4 ounces on my scale. Signed "C.W. 'Sam' Carlson - Maker", and "Carlson Four" on the shaft. Mint pristine condition with paper on the grip and the rod specs and original owner's name inked on the paper. Fairly full flexing action. Flamed cane with lighter nodes overlayed with a spectacular coat of Cosmo spar varnish. Black stripper and black perfection snakes. Maroon windings with black edges at the keeper and male ferrules. Black signature wraps in the "3/2/1" pattern. The ferrules are oversized black and fit perfectly. The grip is 6 1/4" long, squared to the black tenite front cork check and shaped to a "Western" profile with a hidden pocket cap. The seat is a walnut spacer with an aluminum uplock screwlock in a highly polished state. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and a grey frost-coated tube. Sam's rods in this condition are almost impossible to find today and this could easily serve as the centerpiece for any collection.
