Bogdan Model 400 Fly Reel

A gorgeous Bogdan model 400 salmon reel, set up for RHW. This is one you don't see every day! The largest model in the standard Bogdan catalog, this reel has a 4" diameter with a 1 5/8" spool width. It weighs approximately 16.5 ounces and was designated as having capacity to carry a #12 line and 275 yards of backing. It should accommodate just about any modern shooting head or mid or long belly spey line and would match up perfectly for rods 14' and up. We probably get more requests to "please find me one of these" than just about any other Bogdan model. This reel is an excellent, lightly used condition bordering on near mint. There are a few very minimal marks on the frame edge and one or two minor scuffs on the backplate, but the reel is pristine otherwise. It could not have been fished much, maybe a time or two. All silver color frame, foot, serpentine handle, oil port cover, poacher's knob, and Bogdan nameplate. Black sideplates. "400" is stamped into the underside of the foot. It comes in the original brown suede drawstring pouch, and includes the hangtag where Stan has written the model and the original owner's name on it (this reel is a one-owner reel). A very hard-to-find model here that's perfect for the Restigouche, Norway, the larger Scottish rivers, or really anywhere salmon or steelhead swim in large rivers. This would make for a fantastic centerpiece in any serious collection of Bogdans or American fly reels more broadly.
