A Thomas & Thomas “Fountainhead” limited edition bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. This rod is #10 of the 20 that were built in 1983 as part of this series designed to pay tribute to four of the earliest bamboo rod builders - Philippe, Green, Mitchell and Murphy. 5.1 ounces. Mint untouched condition. This rod went directly from the shipping tube to the display case. It is a six strip rod with a chestnut tempered cane and three up nodes. The main wraps are tan with brown edge and an extra band of light yellow (it appear almost white) at the ferrules and tip-tops. Carbide stripper and dark snake guides. There is a light scheme of dark brown intermediates. Two bands of green and one of black at the front check. The ferrules are polished and are the spike type with a step up and welt at the ends of the female. The spike and a portion of the male slide fit into the step up. The step up has the T&T logo stamped in the center and what I would call a chain hand-engraved on the step and lower body of the ferrules. The grip is created by extending the six strips of the rod into a Mahogany blank mortised for the bamboo strips and tapered to a slim cigar profile. A nickel silver front cork check was added as well as some trim marks and given the overall T&T exquisite coat of varnish. The Mahogany and rod strips are extended all the way through the reel seat, a full 5” in length, and then mortised and given a varnish coat and a rear check. The seat is mortised, with a cap and ring design. The nickel silver ring is a full 5/8” long and engraved with “Thomas & Thomas” and some scrollwork. The nickel silver cap is a full 1 3/4” long, engraved with scrollwork and a large circular cartouche with “Fountainhead, 1983, No. 10 of 20, Commemorative, Philippe – Green – Mitchell – Murphy.” The rod packs into a tan cloth bag with stiffener and a black anodized aluminum tube with brass furniture and a T&T sticker.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Your shipping estimate will be calculated at checkout and if you have any questions please contact us. Please note the buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties or fees that may levied. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt.
