A few weeks ago I was able to sneak over to the Catskills for a couple of days, which served as my first real trout trip of the season. We’ve had such a late spring this year that it was a bit shocking not to have wet a line until May.

The water was still pretty high but I was able to find a pool that I used to fish regularly in my Leonard days and which I had usually done well on when flows were up.

The conditions were still a little dicey but I spotted this wild brown pretty close to the bank. After a few casts I nearly put him down, but dropping a leader size and changing flies did the trick. A great feeling to be on the water again!
