A nice Maxwell period H.L. Leonard “Hunt Special” model 50-6 bamboo fly rod,
8', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #6 line Ser #83120, dating this to 1983. The rod weighs 4.6 ounces on my scale. Very light use with no soiling to the grip and just the start of some brassing to the inner snake guides. The action is on the border of medium and fast. The cane is flamed with a three up node pattern. The wraps are a light tan to match the cane color with red and green edges at the keepers, male ferrules, and tip tops. Light tan intermediates. The signature wraps have been split apart for the rod type and serial number. Agate stripper, and the step ferrules are oxidized jet black. The slim cigar grip is 6" long, and the seat is a mortised, stained, and varnished curly maple. The up-lock aluminum screw lock is stamped “H.L. Leonard Rod Co., the Rod Maker, since 1869.” The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and aluminum tube with brass hardware.
