2009
An EF Payne Model 200L bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #3 or #4. Slower action. Weighs 3.6 ounces on my scale. Recently refinished with a wrap color slightly lighter than the original and the stripping guide doesn't match what the original would have had. Fresh bronze guides and the first hint of cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrule wraps. The ferrules are oxidized and the fit is tight. Very good varnish job. The grip is 5" long and shaped to a slim cigar profile, and it has a bit of ridging from a prior cleaning. The seat has an oxidized cap and ring over what looks like a walnut spacer. The cap has the later die stamp "Payne" in a cartouche and a "Reg Us Pat Off" underneath. No hang tag with the olive color poplin bag. The rod packs into an Arne Mason brass and leather tube and also comes with the original tube.
