For sale here is a very fine cane rod from the bench of Luke Bannister -- 6'10" 3/2 4-5wt. This rod is from Bannister's traditional series of rods and is based on a H.L. Leonard taper which he calls, "the best of the bunch" on his site. The rod is in near mint condition. All sections are full length and straight. Bannister hails from western England and takes a great deal of inspiration from his home rivers and streams.
The rod features beautiful moderately tempered cane with transparent wraps; deep violet thread at the winding check, ferrules, and tip-tops. Oxidized hardware throughout. The tips are numbered for convenience. U-shaped hook keeper over a gradually swelled butt. The cigar grip measures 6 1/8" in length. Down-locking nickel silver reel seat over a beautifully figured mortised wood spacer. The truncated Swiss-style ferrules have a perfect fit. The rod weighs in at an even 4 oz. The action is an authoritative medium-fast with plenty of backbone thanks in part to the swelled butt. The tips are quick and responsive making for precise casts. A terrific dry-fly rod for tight conditions. Included is its original bag and a fine leather tube.
Don't miss out on this little gem! You will surely be satisfied with this one. Current retail on Mr. Bannister's website is approximately $2,350!
