A nice Bogdan model 0 salmon reel, set up for RHW, with two spare spools. This is the workhorse single-handed Bogdan, 3 1/4" in diameter with a 1 3/8" spool width. Black sideplates and drag adjuster with a silver frame and spool, along with a silver handle, foot, oil port cover, poacher's knob, and the standard Bogdan nameplate. This reel comes from the collection of Frank Godchaux III, an avid salmon fisherman whose reels are featured in Graydon Hilyard's book on the Bogdans. Notably, Mr. Godchaux had many of his reels engraved by the celebrated engraver EC Prudhomme (1911-1990) known by sportsman for his masterly gun engraving. Here, Prudhomme has engraved a beautiful triad of Mr. Godchaux's initials in a lovely script, offset by a salmon fly and a leaping salmon engraving to the lower left and right, respectively, all done on the faceplate. This reel is mechanically sound but has moderate cosmetic use, with some rash around the rims. The owner's name has also been lightly scratched into the rim near the foot. The sideplates have some moderate cosmetic use with a few light scratches here and there. The drag adjuster has some brassing. The foot is nice and straight with a few mounting grooves. All of the spools have the original owner's name scratched into them on the non-visible side and the two spares fit perfectly but are ever so slightly warmer in color than the silver one in the reel. I'd say halfway between the silver and the "champagne" color you often see. This reel is set up with a 2:1 multiplier retrieve and has the revered Bogdan double brake drag design that salmon anglers love. Comes in a suede brown leather bag and the two spare spools come in their own separate suede bag.
