A near mint Bogdan 400 fly reel, the largest model in Stan's catalog, set up for RHW. This reel is incredibly rare, especially in all-black color. The owner told us that this reel was used once but I could find no real sign of it. There are no nicks on the frame, no brassing anywhere. At most there are what I might describe as a couple of handling marks on the sideplate, the odd rubbing from picking it up here and there, but that's it. If the owner hadn't told me that, I would probably have rated it as pure mint, that's the kind of amazing shape it's in - about as pristine as you could ask for. The 400 model was designed for use with large two-handed rods on big rivers going after big fish (Norway, the Restigouche, etc.). It is 4" in diameter with a 1.625" spool width, and was built for #12 lines with 125 yards of 20lb backing. It weighs 15.5 ounces. This reel has the all black color scheme, with the frame, sideplates, and spool all black anodized. The crank, foot, oil port cover, poacher's knob, and Bogdan nameplate are all the usual silver. The reel boasts the classic double-caliper brake drag that made the Bogdan name famous and is capable of stopping the strongest sea-run salmon. "400" is stamped on the underside of the foot between the screws. Comes in the original suede bag and a gorgeous mint Arne Mason block style case with "Bogdan 400" tastefully embossed in gold on the top. Model 400's in this kind of shape don't come along every day, especially in all-black color and with a stunning case into the bargain. Don't miss this one!
