An EC Powell Fly Rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tips, built for what feels to me like a #4 line. Weighs 4.2 ounces on my scale. 2 opposed node construction with honey colored cane. One tip is a replacement and is lighter in color with a more matte finish to the varnish, and slightly lighter color wrap threads (the owner relays that this tip was replaced by Walt Powell). The varnish on the original sections is okay overall other than a small splotch on the butt section. Standard Powell brown wraps on the original sections with single intermediates and the cream and black tipping above the lowermost wrap above the grip. This rod has several noteworthy issues. The butt section has a clear wrap that goes from the grip up to the stripper which I'm guessing was done to address a delamination issue. The original tip has what appears to be a graphite sleeve that's been wrapped over a 2 inch section about 2/3 of the way to the tip. Furthermore the butt section has cracks in both opposing nodes below the uppermost guide and I would recommend that this receives attention before fishing. The ferrule wrap also has a slight crack in it though the ferrule does not appear to be loose at all. Standard bright ferrules, as well as the Powell-style grip and bakelite seat with uplocking aluminum hardware with the Powell stamp. The ferrules fit together nicely. The butt section is straight but the original tip has a righthand casting set in it, the replacement tip a righthand and mild downstream set. Medium fast action that should throw a #4 nicely (the replacement tip is slightly heavier and produces a more medium action). Comes in a brown bag and aluminum tube. With a little attention this rod could be a serviceable fisher.
