A 9' 3-piece 2-tip Ed Payne, all original and from the estate of legendary fly-tyer and Theodore Gordon disciple Roy Steenrod. It was last sold by Marty Keane in catalog #84 in 2002. I will quote Marty here since he says it as well as anyone could: "Rarely seen in any condition are EF Payne rods. This 9' 3/2 is totally original, end-to-end, with light cane and glorious honey-tone charming varnish, accented with green and black variegated wraps at each tungsten guide and quiet chinese red/orange tone silk tipping. This rod also has green jasper delicate intermediate wraps with fancy groups above each male ferrule. All wraps are excellent and original though the red agate stripping guide is slightly bent. Natural pot-bellied tight ferrules and lovely all-german nickel silver reel seat with hand soldered cap. Fine thin cork rings on grip. 5.25 ounces. I believe the original agate tip-top guides were replaced by perfection guides circa 1915. This lovely aristocrat from Jim's father (who died in 1914) is amazing in its condition as nothing has been hurt or shortened. Jim always said he tried his whole life to make a rod as nice as his father's. Comes with bag and tube.
