For sale here is a second-version Edward Vom Hofe Model 423 "Restigouche" Salmon fly reel in very good overall condition. Size 6/0 - 4 1/4" diameter. This reel carries the Sep 2, 1879 patent on the drag adjustment disc under the handle, as well as the Jan 23, 1883 patent mark for the sliding click drag. German silver safety bands and pair of roller bars. The reel has a strong adjustable drag and click. The seven detent arrowhead pointer drag feature with red dot indicators originated circa 1907.The reel foot is full length and not filed. Includes a 6/0 marking on it but no serial number. Serial numbers were applied to the feet starting in 1908. There is one ding in the german silver rim on the winding plate side of the reel and there is a very shallow crack in the ebonite leading from this ding to the recess where the drag plate lies. I've photographed this for all to see here. This does not in any way represent a mechanical issue with the reel, simply a cosmetic one. The reelcomes with the original EVH marked leather case, albeit in poor condition.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
