For sale here is an exceedingly rare 7' E.W. Edwards De Luxe bamboo rod. Mt. Carmel era (mid-1920s to early 1930s). Made for Abbey & Imbrie.
The rod is in excellent restored condition. Steve Blake performed the masterful restoration work. The cane and hardware is entirely original and without repair. The rod includes a replacement bag and tube.
The rod has beautifully flamed and honey-colored blanks with chestnut brown silks and gold tipping. The script is in the characteristic Edwards' yellow and the Abbey & Imbrie decal is in fine condition. Hook-keeper. Agate stripping guide. The short tapered cigar grip is in excellent condition with light ridging. Down-locking nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a mortised walnut spacer. Bakelite grip and winding checks.
The rod weighs a lean 2.45 oz. Ferrule size 11/64 with an excellent fit. The crisp action is on the faster side of medium fast. This is a wonderful dry-fly rod by today's standards let alone the early 20th century.
A finely preserved and very historic rod that highlights what a fine craftsman and how ahead of his time E.W. Edwards was.
