A spectacular EF Payne two handed bamboo fly rod, 13', 3-piece, 2-tip. This rod is in mint condition with the paper still on the foregrip. My guess is that the manufacture date is the early 1950's, with a perfection stripper and no ferrule plugs. The tip tube was missing so we have supplied a cloth bag to hold the two tips and mid. Canvas overbag with two compartments. The cane features the typical Payne temper and node spacing. Brown main wraps with pale green edges and extra bands of yellow and purple at the keeper and ferrules. Perfection stripper and reverse twist snake guides. Small hoop taper tube tip tops. The varnish is stunning. The ferrules are oxidized jet black. The front grip is 10" long and shaped to a cigar profile that still has the paper and gum strips on it. The large aluminum downlocking screwlock will accept any full size reel foot. The bottom grip is 7 1/2" long which includes the aluminum bottom and rubber button (the cork portion is 5" long). The aluminum portion bears the stamp "Sold by / Abercrombie and Fitch / New York". The screw barrel is stamped "Payne" and "Reg US Pat Off" in a cartouche. I don't need to remind anyone how rare it is to find an original Payne with the paper still on the grip!
