An Everett Garrison model 202E bamboo fly rod, 7', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Serial "L-72" indicating a 1968 production date. The rod weighs 3 ounces on my scale. The rod is in superb original condition with no cosmetic casting cracks at the ferrules wraps and no brassing to the inner guides except for the slightest hint inside the tip tops. Medium action. Oven tempered cane with a spiral node pattern. Resorcinol glue with the typical visible black line where it is absorbed into the cane. Very light tan, almost clear main wraps and dark brown at the ferrules and keeper. The stripper is carbide and the snakes are dark high arch high speed steel. The varnish is in excellent condition with no sign of softening or other issues. The ferrules are original "Super Z" with the logo stamp. The rod shaft is lettered: one flat right "Garrison 202E, two flats right "L-72", three flats right "1968". The cork grip is 6" long and shaped to a blunt cigar and shows a bit of hand soiling. The cork reel seat shows the impressions of a reel foot. The seat hardware consists of a knurled nickel silver sliding ring and a nickel silver pocket cap. The rod packs into the original bag with the attached ferrule plug and the original tube with a brass collar and aluminum top. It is exceedingly hard to find original condition Garrisons in good shape, and this one certainly fits the bill!
