Everett Garrison Model 212-E Bamboo Fly Rod 8' 2/2 #6
A superb Everett Garrison Model 212-E bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tips, and built for what feels to me like a #6. M-8-1 serial number inked on the butt along with "1969", the manufacture date. Excellent plus original condition, with a bit of mild hand soiling to the grip but there are no ferrule wrap cracks and very little brassing to the inner guides. There is one tiny chip in the varnish below the second guide from the tip top on one tip, though the varnish overall is excellent. As expected this Garrison practically defines what a progressive medium action should be. Spiral node pattern with resorcinol glue. Bright chrome stripper and bronzed guides the rest of the way. The wraps are dark brown at the grip and ferrules and amber at the guides. One tip is wrapped red at the tip top and the other the standard amber (Garrison did this to make it easier to alternate tips when fishing). The grip is a 6 1/2" long blunt cigar with a cork reel seat, which has some light reel foot impressions in it. The hardware is comprised of a one piece formed pocket cap with a knurled slide band ring. Super Z ferrules that are polished bright. The ferrule fits are excellent and the rod is very straight. The rod packs into an original bag with an attached ferrule plug and an aluminum tube with a brass collar and aluminum top. It is very very hard to find a Garrison in this kind of condition and this is one of his most celebrated tapers (when I discussed this rod with Hoagy Carmichael, the first words out of his mouth were "Now that is a GREAT taper"!).
