For sale here is an incredibly rare Harold S. "Pinky" Gillum 6'6" 2/2 4wt bamboo trout rod. The rod is in excellent condition with one notable disclosure; there is an invisible repair wrap on one of the tips covering a node lift or perhaps a breakage. The wrap is 3 1/8" in length and starts about 1 1/4" up from the ferrule. As such, the guide was re-wrapped over the repair. There is light wear to the rod throughout though this is only cosmetic and expected considering the age of the rod. All sections are full length with slight sets in both tips.
The rod is serial no. 1-802. The widely held belief is that Gillum produced about 1000 rods in his career. The ferrules are Super-Z's, which Gillum started using around 1948-1950. Early in the 1950s he started using Cal Air tubes, which is included with this rod.
Jet black silks with white and black tipping at the winding check and male ferrules. The female ferrule has a white band bisecting the ferrule/guide wrap. The script denoting the serial number at the ferrules remains clean and bold. The nickel silver winding check was painted black at some point and is now wearing off. The cigar grip is 5" in length. It has been cleaned and shows light ridging. Bright aluminum cap and ring reel seat over a mortised African mahogany spacer. There is a small chip in the spacer just above the mortise. This is only cosmetic and doesn't hinder use. Stamped on the butt cap is, "H.S. Gillum MAKER". The Super-Z ferrules are size 12/64.
The rod weighs a svelte 2.80 oz. On the fast side of medium fast action. Best with a DT4 in my opinion. Some may prefer a WF5. Comes with original bag and tube.
