For sale here is a beautiful Harold S. "Pinky" Gillum trout rod -- eight feet with two sections and two tips. Serial no. 1-684. The rod is in excellent+ original condition, which makes this rod supremely scarce. The varnish, hand-brushed by Gillum remains glossy and in excellent condition although there are some very light marks (not chips) from use, mostly in the butt section and none penetrates to the cane. Each section is full length and shows no history of repair. Moderately tempered cane with the classic brown/copper silks. Black and white (aged to a golden) tipping at the winding check and male ferrules. The tip-tops have the same white (now gold) tipping. The tips are distinguished by one and two bands of this tipping as well. Blued guides. Ring hook-keeper. The serial no. written at the ferrule of each section remains clean and bold. The butt features a mild swell. Reverse-half wells grip 6 1/2" in length is very lightly ridged. Bright aluminum up-locking reel seat with a beautiful African Mahogany wood spacer. The Super-Z brand ferrules are size 14/64 with an excellent fit. The sections appear to have only been put together a handful of times as the male slides show very little wear if any. The rod weighs 4.85 oz. The action is a strong medium fast and best with a six weight line. Includes replacement T&T bag with stiffening dowel and the original tube. A canvas rod tube cover will be included as well.
Gillum trout rods are a rarity in any case and almost never seen in this condition - truly one of the finest examples you will ever see.
