Goodwin Granger - Colorado Special Model 9050 Bamboo Rod

For sale here is a Goodwin Granger "Colorado Special" - Model 9050 - 9' 5wt 3/1 bamboo rod. Likely made in the mid to late 1920s. The Colorado and Denver Specials were removed from the model line by 1930. The rod is in excellent+ restored condition. All sections are full length, there is a slight fishing set in the tip. This rod along with the Denver Special were the only two blonde rods ever made by Granger. They were the lowest priced rods in the line-up. Interestingly, Goodwin Granger himself, used the Colorado Special 8642 as his personal fishing rod. As stated, the rod features blonde, straw colored cane, a dramatic departure from the dark ammoniated cane Granger is known for. The wraps are a bright chinese red. Halfway between the winding check and first guide is a signature wrap consisting of a wide red band with four slimmer bands on either side in "Granger Green". The original western-style grip was retained though it has been thoroughly cleaned and sanded a bit. There is some wear at the bottom edge from use as a hook keeper. The rod features the older style sliding bad nickel silver Granger reel seat. There is no model name printed in between the two hash mark bands, a trait exclusive to the Colorado Special. The seat is in wonderful condition, showing only minor wear. The ferrules are size 18/64 and 12/64, the fit is excellent. The rod weighs 4.75 oz. The action is on the faster side of medium, smooth, but still with enough backbone to handle a windy day. The rod includes the original "purse string" bag and wooden tip protector. The Colorado Special was the only model to come packed in this way. The bag has minor holes and wear but nothing that hinders use of the bag in any way. Truly a wonderful example of an early Granger rod. Don't miss a chance to own this rare "blue-collar" rod that Goodwin Granger himself preferred to fish.
